Redskins rookie Dwayne Haskins was in his ‘element’ this week
Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins got his first taste of NFL action last week in the preseason that had its fair share of ups and downs.
Haskins showed plenty of room for growth after throwing a pair of interceptions in his limited action in the preseason opener. However, he bounced back in Week 2 action of exhibition play as he went 7-of-14 for 114 yards with a touchdown to which after the game he voiced optimism about what lies ahead, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
“I’m not going to throw two picks again. That’s what I thought, and I didn’t, so that’s good,†Haskins said. “I was just a little more settled down this week than I was last week. I felt like I was more in my element.â€
Haskins looked to be more composed and in tune the second time around against live-action. Granted, it’s still preseason where teams are not playing with their starters for long periods of time or are putting forth much of their playbooks, this should elicit some encouragement. The Redskins are hoping that he can be the team’s future under center after investing the 15th overall pick in him in this year’s draft.
There will be times ahead where Haskins struggles when he’s on the field in his rookie year when he sees the field as he gets acclimated to the speed of the game of the complexity of the defensive schemes. This is something that all incoming players have to adjust to, which will be intriguing to see if he can adapt to playing at the next level.
