Richard Sherman talks Tom Brady influencing him to sign with Bucs

After several days of speculation, star cornerback Richard Sherman chose a move to Tampa Bay to join the Bucs.

Sherman remained a free agent since departing from the San Francisco 49ers over the offseason. His lengthy stretch in the open market came as a result of him dealing with some legal issues.

He’s facing five charges stemming from an incident at his wife’s parent’s home located in Washington. He pleaded not guilty to five misdemeanor charges, including two counts of domestic violence along with resisting arrest, driving under the influence, and reckless endangerment of roadway workers.

Despite that, the Buccaneers inked him to a one-year deal to help solidify their secondary. The move came after Tom Brady pitched in to recruit him to the franchise.

“He’s just a competitor. We have the same spirit in that regard,” said Sherman about Brady via ESPN. “Anything that it takes to win, obsessed, a lot of what Kobe Bryant stood for — the late, great — and so you can appreciate that about each other. That’s what kind of attracted me to come. He’s the same kind of animal I am.”

The addition of Sherman brings a steady voice and presence to the Buccaneers’ secondary. He’s one of the league’s top defensive backs that will provide leadership to Tampa Bay’s young unit.
