Rookie Jalen Hurts will remain Eagles starting QB

The Carson Wentz era for the Philadelphia Eagles seems to have officially come to an end after the team took down the New Orleans Saints on Sunday with rookie Jalen Hurts under center.

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has officially made the switch from Wentz to Hurts for the rest of the 2020 NFL season.

The Eagles are one of a few teams that have made the drastic change at the quarterback position from veteran to rookie. The Miami Dolphins are the most notable team with Tua Tagovailoa turning the squad into a potential playoff team. The Cincinnati Bengals also chose to start Joe Burrow, but his season ended prematurely due to injury.

Justin Herbert also got the nod to start early for the Los Angeles Chargers and has proven to be a promising young star on the rise.

As for Hurts, the Eagles were reluctant to bench Wentz in favor of the rookie. That changed quickly after seeing what the young quarterback could do when given the opportunity.

Although Hurts hasn’t blown away people with his stats, the Oklahoma product has been doing enough to get the job done in the same Tagovailoa has for the Dolphins.

In the win over the Saints, Hurts finished with 167 passing yards, one passing touchdown and 106 rushing yards on 18 attempts.

The Eagles will face the Arizona Cardinals on Dec. 20 and attempt to try to move up the NFC East standings with only three games left in the regular season.
