Saints’ Benjamin Watson calls out NFL commissioner Roger Goodell

Since the Los Angeles Rams topped the New Orleans Saints 26-23 in overtime in the NFC Championship, there has been much focus surrounding the missed call late in the fourth quarter.

Much of this has come in the way of disappointment from the Saints and their fan base that has grown louder with the lack of communication from commissioner Roger Goodell. In light of that, Saints’ retiring tight end Ben Watson sent out a tweet in which he felt that Goodell should respond and “lead by example,” according to ESPN.

There has been plenty of feedback around the league concerning the call. It has also surrounded a play with 1:45 left in the fourth quarter on a third-and-10 play from with the score tied at 20-20.

This saw Rams’ cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman run into Saints’ wide receiver Tommylee Lewis while making helmet-to-helmet contact before the ball arrived.
It was a play that could have cemented a possible trip to the Super Bowl. However, they were able to go up 23-20 with the lead with less than two minutes left in the game.

New Orleans could have sealed it by stopping the Rams on the ensuing drive and gave up a touchdown. On top of that, they got the ball first in overtime but Drew Brees threw an interception that allowed the Rams to move into the position to grab the win on a game-winning 57-yard field goal.

This is simply something that may take quite a while for the Saints to move past or possibly not at all.
