Saints star Alvin Kamara reacts to Christian McCaffrey’s new contract

Following several days of chatter around star running back Christian McCaffrey’s contract situation with the Carolina Panthers, he received a historic payday from the franchise. That led to plenty of reactions around the league. This included New Orleans Saints Pro Bowler Alvin Kamara, who is in the final year of his four-year rookie deal. With that in mind, Kamara’s initial reaction said a lot about his desire to garner a significant pay raise himself from the Saints.

“Man, look, I don’t even,” Kamara said. “I just play football. I’m just a football guy, I don’t know nothing about contracts, and all these things, and all this money.

“Shout out to Christian, man. That’s my boy. Talented for sure.”

McCaffrey’s deal has reset the entire running back market. He’s now the highest-paid in NFL history behind an average of $16 million over the four-year extension. It also places the bar much higher for Kamara in his upcoming contract talks with the Saints.

In his first three years, the Tennessee product has proven to be the real deal as a legitimate dual-threat option out of the backfield. Kamara is one of three players to record at least 500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons.

He is a highly valuable asset to New Orleans’ offense alongside star wide receiver Michael Thomas. There hasn’t been a timetable for when these contract discussions will pick up, but the price tag to secure Kamara’s services for the long haul has significantly jumped up.
