Brees’ skills were noticeably on the decline during the 2020 campaign. As a result, this decision to walk away from the game isn’t all that surprising. He simply couldn’t throw the football downfield in the same way anymore. This rendered the once-dominant Saints passing game obsolete and in need of a change under center.

The reigns will now be handed over to Taysom Hill. Hill agreed to a restricted four-year contract with the team worth $140 million on Sunday.

As for Brees, it will only be a matter of time before the he’s elected to the Hall of Fame. Then, he will join the likes of fellow superstar quarterbacks of his caliber like Peyton Manning and Brett Favre.

Brees played in 287 games during his storied NFL career with the San Diego Chargers and Saints. He passed for 80,358 yards, 571 touchdowns and 243 interceptions during that span and will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks and most prolific passers of all time.
