Seattle Seahawks title window might be closing soon

If the Seattle Seahawks are going to win another title with Russell Wilson, 2021 might represent their best chance to do so.

Pete Carroll is 69 years old. Russell Wilson was publicly at odds with the front office this offseason, so much so there was a list of teams he was willing to be traded to.

In short, time could be running out on the Seattle Seahawks in their current form.

Entering 2021, Carroll is the league’s oldest current head coach. Wilson, who turns 33 years old in November, has been beat up for years behind a leaky offensive line. Seattle addressed the unit by adding guard Gabe Jackson in a trade this winter with the Las Vegas Raiders. Although, will that be enough? Who can truly say?

Seattle is also dealing with the league’s toughest division. The NFC West is loaded with the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. All those teams are squarely in playoff contention and perhaps Super Bowl discussions. Getting to the postseason will be hard enough, doing so with home-field advantage is damn near a pipe dream.

For the Seahawks, erasing the sting of a Wild Card round loss to the Rams is the first order of business. Seattle went 12-4 only to be rudely bounced by a limited Los Angeles squad which thought so much of quarterback Jared Goff,  it traded him this winter.

Now, Carroll and Co. need to find a better way forward. Some good news? Despite his advanced age, Carroll remains seemingly popular in the locker room. The Seahawks haven’t had many issues with their head man being out of touch, something which routinely pops up. around the league when the age divide becomes too large.

Ultimately, Seattle has a chance to win another title with the current group. The offensive line is improved with Jackson’s acquisition and Wilson is at the peak of his powers. As well as that, he has quality weapons in receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, running back Chris Carson and tight end Gerald Everett. The main concern is the defense, which outside of safety Jamal Adams, edge rusher Carlos Dunlap and linebacker Bobby Wagner is somewhat a mess.

If the Seahawks can’t get it done, with limited cap space and draft picks in the future, the sun could be setting on a great run in Seattle with only one ring.
