Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin Joins Twitter
Let this be a lesson to all of you out there in the Twitterverse who have been full-time social media hustlers for the last several years, working round-the-clock to attain—and maintain—a relatively meager (but loyal)band of <1,000 followers. It looks like you may have been wasting your time. I’m sorry if that discourages you…but it should. It certainly discourages me.
On Friday afternoon around noon, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin finally joined Twitter and immediately proved that all that time you wasted—past and present—trying to be clever and attract followers was completely wasted. At 41-years-old he’s a little late to the party, but he’s had a pretty full plate career wise, since becoming the youngest NFL head coach every to win a Super Bowl championship in 2009, so he’s earned some leniency on the lollygagging.
The only thing Tomlin offered up was a single “no BS” guarantee and it netted him nearly 60,000 followers in the course of a single afternoon. Obviously it doesn’t matter that he has absolute not chance in hell at living up to the guarantee. We all are there are no humans on Earth more gifted at talking continuously, without ever actually saying anything at all, than NFL coaches.
Seriously, that must be the No. 1 prerequisite for the job. That’s the only explanation for Bill Belichick’s continued marketability after his wretched stint with the Cleveland Browns. But I digress…
Coach Tomlin is now on Twitter and you should probably be following him. Click here to do just that.
