Steelers getting ‘positive’ signals from Aaron Rodgers
Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers may soon have a new NFL home as his discussions with the Pittsburgh Steelers are progressing in the right direction.
During the NFL’s annual meeting on Tuesday, Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II voiced that he’s hearing that Rodgers is trending toward joining the franchise.
“We keep getting positive sort of signals about it,” Rooney said via ESPN. “So yeah, I’d say we feel pretty good about it at this point.”
Outside of Rooney’s remarks, there are other reasons for optimism, including Rodgers holding a throwing session with the team’s new wide receiver DK Metcalf in California.
It has become a long drawn-out process for the Steelers since the team first embarked on its pursuit of Rodgers at the start of free agency last month.
This has featured Rodgers exploring his options, such as speaking with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite the mutual interest, the Vikings are moving ahead with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy as the presumed starter next season.
Minnesota did leave the door open to potentially bringing Rodgers aboard if McCarthy struggles in training camp or suffers another injury. However, that lies on the premise that the four-time league MVP remains in free agency through most of the offseason.

He likely wants to secure his next team well before training camp gets underway so that he can build a rapport with his new team ahead of the 2025 season.
The Steelers are in the driver’s seat and should have a deal in place soon with Rodgers.
