Steelers’ Mike Tomlin still hasn’t picked starting QB for Week 7
The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into Week 7 against the new-look New York Jets with a decision that has yet to be made about which quarterback will be under center to start the game at Acrisure Stadium this Sunday. Although Justin Fields has held down the fort for the Steelers over the first six weeks of the season with four wins to his credit, Pittsburgh may very well be making a change now that veteran newcomer Russell Wilson is healthy and ready to play.
Even though all signs point to Wilson getting his first start for the Steelers, with the one-time Super Bowl champion getting first-team reps in practice this week, longtime head coach Mike Tomlin is keeping his decision under wraps. Tomlin claims he’s not going to get into how first-team reps have been split up between Fields and Wilson via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
“I’m not going to get into the details of how we distribute the reps and things of that nature,” Tomlin said. “It doesn’t benefit us. Both guys were full participants today, and I liked it. I liked their participation.”
If a decision has indeed been made regarding whether Fields or Wilson will start on Sunday in Pittsburgh against the visiting Jets, Tomlin isn’t going to release that decision to the public yet via ESPN.
“Any decisions made at this point are in-house,” Tomlin said.
With the offense in Pittsburgh not exactly blowing anyone away with Fields under center, a switch to Wilson to give that side of the football a boost isn’t a bad idea but could backfire if the veteran turns out to be lacking in areas in which Fields excels.

Along with the quarterback controversy for the Steelers, the Jets are in desperate need of a win and just brought in superstar wide receiver Davante Adams via trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, putting some added pressure on New York to get this win on the road.
