Steelers will keep Russell Wilson as the backup quarterback
After losing to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5, the Pittsburgh Steelers will head into Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road at Allegiant Stadium with hopes of bouncing back with a vengeance against a struggling team dealing with a lot of internal drama and a quarterback change from Gardner Minshew to Aidan O’Connell.
The Steelers were thought to potentially make a change at quarterback heading into Week 6, with veteran newcomer Russell Wilson being cleared to play for the first time this season. Justin Fields played well in his first games with the team, but Pittsburgh is coming off consecutive losses against the Indianapolis Colts and Cowboys.

However, it appears that head coach Mike Tomlin will be sticking with Fields rather than making the switch to Wilson via Brook Pryor of ESPN.
“He’s probably going to be active as the No. 2 quarterback,” Tomlin said after practice. “Like what I’ve seen out here, but health and rust are two different things. I thought he had a good week displaying his health, his ability to protect himself. Now it’s just the process of getting reacclimated to the ball.”
Although Tomlin appears to be sticking with Fields moving forward, that could quickly change during the game or possibly ahead of the next game against the New York Jets.
Only time will tell how this quarterback situation pans out in Pittsburgh and if the team can turn things around after consecutive losses.
