Texans RB Joe Mixon will be out most of the preseason
The 2025 NFL season hasn’t even begun, and the injury bug has already bitten the Houston Texans. Veteran running back Joe Mixon is dealing with an ankle injury.
According to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN, Mixon will miss most of the upcoming NFL preseason due to the injury.
Texans running back Joe Mixon will be out a majority of the preseason with an ankle injury and will be reevaluated closer to the start of the regular season, a source confirmed to ESPN.
Although this isn’t great news about Mixon, especially after he had a solid first season with the Texans, Houston made a point of having one of the best backfields heading into the 2025 campaign. The team signed former Cleveland Browns star running back Nick Chubb during the offseason, who will get a chance to prove his worth in Mixon’s absence while also providing some depth at the position.
The Texans took steps to offset Mixon’s potential absence this offseason by signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb after his seven-year stint with the Cleveland Browns and drafting Woody Marks out of USC in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft.
After spending seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Mixon became one of the most significant acquisitions for the Texans last offseason, and the addition to the squad paid off.

Mixon had his fifth season rushing for more than 1,000 yards last season, finishing with 1,026 yards out of the backfield and 1,325 yards from scrimmage while also adding 13 total touchdowns, making him one of the most lethal offensive weapons in Houston. He was also named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career.
