Tim Tebow May Be Done With Football…Forever
Turns out former Heisman winner Tim Tebow was dead serious about his quarterback or bust intentions in the NFL. Despite no interest from teams seeking his services behind center, few have doubted he could make his mark in the game at another position.
Tebow has often been praised for his leadership abilities and the unwavering positivity he brings to the locker room. Unfortunately, good thoughts alone aren’t enough to bring his pass completion rate above 50 percent.
According to Liz Mull of Sports Business Journal, Tebow recently signed with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA). Broadcast agents Nick Khan and Jimmy Sexton are going to be representing him for off the field work as a television analyst.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that covering pro football is Tebow’s first choice as he takes a very big step towards a career in broadcasting, with college ball being his “safety school.” Though he didn’t cite any sources for that tidbit.
This is a sharp change in direction from the official statement he tweeted (yes…he tweeted an official statement) after being cut by the New England Patriots back in August. Quoth the Tebow:
“I would like to thank Mr. Kraft, Coach Belichick, Coach McDaniels and the entire Patriots organization for giving me the opportunity … to be part of such a classy organization. I pray for nothing but the best for you all. I will remain in relentless pursuit … of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback. [Bible verse] … Most gladly, therefore, I will rather … boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.”
Considering Tebow’s “can do” attitude is one of the things he’s most famous for—like the inexplicable ability to will himself to a win in the NFL, despite completing eight passes—this is a jarring shift in tone.
Three months is a pretty short period of time to give up on one’s lifelong dream. Perhaps Christ gave him the green light on this one.
