Daniel Sedin Reaches 1,000 NHL Points

    By Connor Lynch

Daniel Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks hit a personal career milestone against the Nashville Predators yesterday. He reached 1,000 career points in the 5 – 3 win.

His 1000th point was a power-play goal at 10:22 of the third period to tie the game at 3 – 3. The goal was assisted by Sedin’s brother, Henrik. He also added two assists.

“I wanted it to be a goal and in a big win, too,” Daniel Sedin said. “We got both, so I’m extremely proud of the group. To be a part of this group, too, it’s amazing.”

Sedin now has 1,001 points for the Canucks, he is the 97th NHL player to reach 1,000. He is also the 19th player to reach that milestone with one team. Henrik Sedin, who had three assists on the night, reached 1,000 points back in January. The pair are the first brothers to both reach 1,000 points in the NHL.

“It’s been special playing with him for so long on the same team,” said Daniel Sedin. The result ends a 3-game losing streak for Vancouver.

However, the star of the night was Brock Boeser. The rookie had two goal and one assist. Loui Eriksson also scored twice. Anders Nilsson made 29 saves.

Craig Smith scored a goal and made an assist for the Predators. His goal at 2:42 was the first of the game in the second period. Nick Bonino and Filip Forsberg  also scored for the Predators.

“We gave up too much in the second and in the third,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said. “When you have a 3-2 lead going into the third, you can continue to push but you have to do it inside of some structure. I thought that we lost the structure and they gained a lot of opportunities from it. We need to play better defense.”

The Canucks will be excited over Boeser, who looks like a player they can build their future around. His performance also allowed him to reclaim top spot among NHL rookie scorers with 25. With 13 goals, he is also the top goal scorer among rookies in the league.
