Nick Young Agrees To Sign One-Year Deal With Warriors
After weighing his options in NBA free agency, veteran guard Nick Young has come to a decision. The former Los Angeles Lakers star had no shortage of suitors in free agency this summer with plenty of teams showing interest in the sharpshooter, but he elected to go with a chance to win a title next season.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Young has agreed to a one-year deal with the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors:
Free-agent guard Nick Young has agreed to a one-year, $5.2 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told ESPN.
As without a doubt the most talented team in the league, Golden State didn’t have to do much this offseason outside of securing new deals with current players like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Andre Iguodala. All three players agreed to re-sign with the team relatively quick letting the team’s brass focus on upgrading the bench which is where Young came into the Warriors’ plans.
Young is coming off a solid season with the Lakers in which he was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise forgettable year for the purple and gold. Before being shut down by head coach Luke Walton, Young was having a career year and was even able to compete in the NBA’s 3-Point Contest during All-Star weekend.
The veteran guard will be a welcome addition to the Warriors roster as it gives the team another player who can stretch the defense and create his own shot off the bench. Golden State was able to improve with the signing of Young, but it remains to be seen if he really is a good fit on a championship-caliber team.
