Nuggets Owner Sends Strong Message About David Adelman After Playoff Disappointment

The Denver Nuggets are a couple of weeks removed from a disappointing first-round playoff exit, but that hasn’t wavered the franchise’s confidence in head coach David Adelman.

Team president and governor Josh Kroenke voiced his strong support for Adelman to lead the Nuggets forward.

“I have full faith in Coach Adelman,” Kroenke said at a news conference at Ball Arena via ESPN. “And I think he coached a hell of a season, all things considered.”

Adelman is coming off his first full season at the helm of Denver, where he helped guide the Nuggets to the third-best record in the Western Conference at 54-28.

That saw him guide the team to one of the top marks in the West despite Jokic missing a month due to a knee injury. Denver looked to be hitting their stride heading into the playoffs behind a 12-game winning streak, but lost in six gams to the sixth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.

Beyond questions about Adelman’s coaching future, there are concerns about the team’s roster around Jokic, which struggled to help lift them to a deep playoff run.

Denver is in a precarious position as Jokic is eligible for a four-year maximum extension worth up to $290 million. The star big man has repeatedly indicated he wants to stay with the Nuggets, but that will hover over the franchise until it’s worked out this upcoming offseason.

Kroenke said any player other than Jokic could be available in a trade to push Denver back into NBA contention. All of that spells what should be quite an interesting offseason ahead for the Nuggets.
