Packers’ Jordy Nelson Expected To Play Against Falcons In NFC Championship Game
The Green Bay Packers appear to have received some great news regarding their receiving corps ahead of the NFC Championship Game against the Atlanta Falcons. The Packers had to face the Dallas Cowboys without their star receiver Jordy Nelson, but it seems though they’ll no longer have that void downfield.
According to NFL.com, Nelson is expected to be ready to go for the showdown with the Falcons on Sunday:
After missing last week’s win against the Cowboys, Jordy Nelson is expected to play with fractured ribs, a source informed told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Fellow wideouts Davante Adams (ankle) and Geronimo Allison (hamstring), both who Packers coach Mike McCarthy called game-time decisions, are also set to join Nelson on the field, per Rapoport.
The biggest concern for the Packers leading up to the NFC Championship was the health of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target in the passing game. Nelson is having a great year with career-high 12 touchdown catches during the regular season and obviously a major loss when not on the field for Green Bay.
Although the Cowboys were a formidable opponent and took the Packers the distance last week, not having Nelson as an option in the passing game is a problem. Nelson likely won’t be 100 percent, but even at less than perfect he is a major upgrade for the receiving corps and probably provides a sigh of relief for Rodgers as he tries to lead his team to the Super Bowl.
The Packers may be riding high heading into the NFC Championship Game after an incredible come-from-behind victory against the Cowboys, but they’ll underdogs on Sunday with the Falcons sporting a -5.5 point spread, according to Sportsbook.ag.
