Ravens’ Will Hill Suspended Ten Games, Cut From Team
When it comes to shoring up the woeful secondary, it’s been a case of “easy come, easy go†for the Baltimore Ravens so far this offseason. Mere days after announcing the signing of safety Eric Weddle, Baltimore announced it was cutting Weddle’s expected partner in the crime, Will Hill.
Prior to cutting the talented but feeble-minded Hill, the Ravens were informed that, should Hill remain on the roster to start the 2016 season, he would serve the first 10 games on the bench due to failing another drug test. The news made the decision easy for Baltimore’s front office, who will again be looking to fill that role during training camp and preseason.
Since moving on from Ed Reed, the Ravens have struggled to find a long-term answer at a position that has defined their defensive success for so long. Former first-round pick Matt Elam has been an unequivocal bust. The team could look into a replacement during the draft, but seem set on converting former cornerback Lardarius Webb to safety.
It was off-field trouble that landed Hill in Baltimore in the first place. He racked up three strikes in two years with the New York Giants; a tumultuous period that included a six-game suspension while under the employment of Big Blue.
Now Hill – despite being one of Baltimore’s few bright spots during a miserable 5-11 campaign last year – may be carrying too much baggage to his next NFL interview to keep him from ever playing again. Many NFL teams are in need of a dangerous ballhawk like Hill. Far fewer teams have the patience to wait until he gets his head on straight.
