Redskins QB Kirk Cousins ‘Not Expecting’ To Be Traded
The Washington Redskins have lost a few offensive weapons during the NFL offseason thus far. Both DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon have taken their talents elsewhere while quarterback Kirk Cousins remains in limbo with talks of a trade still looming.
According to Cousins, he has not be told anything regarding possibly being traded before next season, via ESPN’s John Keim:
“I haven’t heard anything. I’m not expecting anything to happen,” Cousins said on NFL Live Tuesday. “And I’m looking forward to getting back to work with my teammates.”
Cousins recently signed his franchise tag making him a rich man next season. Unfortunately, his future will remain uncertain until he inks a long-term deal with the Redskins or with another NFL team.
There’s been a lot of talk about the 28-year-old wanting to play for the San Francisco 49ers rejoining him with his former teammate, Garcon. The 49ers are a completely revamped franchise from the Jim Harbaugh era and now need a starting quarterback with the departure of Colin Kaepernick.
Adding Cousins would seem to make sense, and it would also reunite him with Kyle Shannahan who has come on to be Chip Kelly’s successor in the Bay Area. Cousins may not be among the league’s elite quarterbacks like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers, but he is a force to be reckoned with under center and would help the 49ers get back on track offensively next season.
Last season, Cousins had another solid year for the Redskins coming only 83 passing yards shy of hitting 5,000. Cousins also passed for 25 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions while sporting a 67 completion percentage.
