Report: Joe Johnson and Pistons Agree on Deal
Veteran shooting forward Joe Johnson and the Detroit Pistons have agreed to a deal according to multiple reports and an NBA source.
The contract is for $2.6 million and includes guaranteed money of $220,000 said a source. The remainder of the contract will become 100% guaranteed if Johnson is on the team roster after January 7.
Johnson, who is 38, did not play in the NBA last season, but was recently named the Big3 League’s MVP and led his Triplets team to the league title. In 17 seasons playing in the NBA, Johnson averaged 16 points per game.
During the 2017-18 season, which was Johnson’s last in the NBA, the veteran played for Utah and Houston and averaged 6.8 points per game over 55 games. He played in the playoffs that year while with the Rockets.
Johnson was a member of the Brooklyn Nets between 2012 and 2016 and was named to one of his seven All-Star teams during that span.
Prior to agreeing to terms to join the Pistons, Johnson worked out earlier in September with Milwaukee and Brooklyn, according to multiple reports.
Johnson started his NBA career with the Boston Celtics moved on to the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.
