RGIII Watch: Medically Cleared, May Miss Preseason

With football still a few weeks away we are all getting pretty anxious.  Every offseason move, draft pick and prediction has just about been made has we gear up for another year of great football.  However, their are still a lot of question marks out their that are worth paying attention to, like how soon Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin the III will be back on the field.  We now have an answer, sort of.

As of Monday morning, it was made official that Griffin has been medically cleared to participate in training camp only seven months after having major reconstruction surgery done on his knee.  Griffin tweeted that coach Mike Shanahan would be slowly returning Griffin to into the game.

Griffin participated in a pretty rigorous work out immediately after Griffin was cleared, though, he stopped short of answer questions on whether we would see RGIII on the field during the preseason.  It is being reported by some media outlets that those close to the situation said that Griffin will still likely miss the entire preseason.

One cannot really blame Shanahan for easing Griffin back into football.  A lot of the media shoulder the blame for RGIII’s injury on Shanahan’s shoulders because he continued to let Griffin play despite knowing he was hurt.  Shanahan himself has expressed the same sentiment.  He will wait until he feels RGIII is 100 percent ready to get back on the field, regardless if the fans, sports analyst or Griffin himself feels differently.

None of the sportsbooks I researched had any special prop odds on whether we would see RGIII on the field on the first game of the season, but Top Bet does have the odds for players most likely to win the MVP next year with RGIII among the players with the best odds.  He has a +1600 moneyline to win at Top Bet, which may sound slim, but he ranks up their with Adrian Peterson and Colin Kaepernick.

Bovada gives RGIII 16/1 odds to win the MVP.  It would be hard for him to win if he doesn’t play the majority of the season.  Whether or not he will be ready for game one of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles is still up in the air and not a bet I would be willing to make.
