Romo Likes Cowboys Chances Against Washington and Philadelphia
Two weeks remain in the NFL regular season and as inconsistent, as the Dallas Cowboys have played they still have their playoff destiny in their own hands.
Dallas is currently in second place in the NFC East with a record of 7-7 and trails the first place Philadelphia Eagles by one game.
With a beat up defense both mentally and physically, Tony Romo the quarterback for the Cowboys admits his offense has been affected down the stretch by the defense’s inability to stop opponents.
Romo says the team does not have a big margin for error and everyone knows they need to play an error free game and if possible with no turnovers.
All season, his offense has done a good job of that but last week in the second half that was not the case with interceptions that hurt.
During the fourth quarter of last week’s game Romo threw two interceptions that ultimately aided Green Bay in its comeback win 37-36. One interception set up the winning score for Green Bay, while the second ended any chance of a comeback by Dallas.
This season Dallas has lost 2 of the 3 games, it has scored 35 or more points, the rest of the teams in the NFL are 51-2 when scoring that many points.
The defense for Dallas has already given up more yards for a season than any prior year and two games remain. The team is also on pace to allow its most points in team history for one season.
Regardless of how bad the defense is playing, Romo is confident the team can defeat the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
Romo believes he and his teammates can defeat Washington this week and Philadelphia next week to win the NFC East and reach the postseason.
If the Cowboys win Sunday, Dallas would be in its third consecutive winner take all last game of the regular season for the NFC East title.
If Dallas were to lose on Sunday to Washington, the team would need Philadelphia to lose Sunday night to Chicago to have a winner take all meeting against Philly next week.
The first two winner take all matchups were lost be Dallas. In 2011, the Cowboys lost to the New York Giants and last season to Washington both on the road. This season the Cowboys will meet the Eagles at home.
Romo is confident and feels fortunate to be in this position of controlling their destiny. He knows last season and the season before they did not get the job done, but this season Romo feels better about the team’s chances.
For Sunday’s game, Dallas is favored on the road by 3 points over Washington. The Redskins have sat down Robert Griffin III, their talented second-year quarterback for the season, but his replacement Kurt Cousins nearly led the team to a win last week against Atlanta before eventually losing 27-26.
