Russell Westbrook On LeBron’s Role In Recruiting Him For Lakers
Former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook thought he might never get the chance to play for his hometown Lakers. That’s until LeBron James wanted him.
In a similar story to the recruitment of Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James reached out to Westbrook to make it happen.
The Lakers crashed out of last years’ playoffs to the Phoenix Suns in the first round. LeBron, to invoke another serial winner, must have taken that personally.Â
The Lakers roster is now packed full of elite veterans with something to prove, and Russell Westbrook fits right in.

Russell Westbrook led the league in assists last year. As a result the All-Star knows a thing or two about facilitating for his teammates. He’s already thinking about how he can help LeBron, who had a frustrating year last season.Â
“Bron is one of the best players to play this game, and his ability to be able to kind of do everything on the floor allows me to be able to just figure it out,” said Westbrook.
“I’m coming to a championship-caliber team and my job is to make sure that I’m able to make his game easier for him, and I’ll find ways to do that throughout the game.â€

“This stuff happened so quickly, all of this happened so fast, the last two weeks or so,” Westbrook added. “But we’ve had brief conversations and talked about obviously what we need to do.
“Being from L.A., you always wish that you can play for your home team and be able to do that,” Westbrook said.”But that’s definitely something that always kind of circled around in my mind. And maybe one day. But I would always come back and be like, ‘Ahh, that probably won’t happen.'”
