A struggling Sacramento Kings team ended their 16-year road losing streak against the Miami Heat on Thursday night. The Young Kings side, which contained 3 rookies, came from behind to win 89-88 with seconds remaining.

The Kings entered the game against Miami as the NBA’s worst defensive team with 110.1 points per 100 possessions. It was almost their undoing again, as they found themselves down by 12 points in the final quarter.

With 5.8 seconds remaining, Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic missed a mid-range jump shot. Rookie De’Aaron Fox eluded Heat point Guard Goran Dragic to score the putback.

Sacramento was led by reserve shooting guard Buddy Hield with 24 points. De’Aaron Fox contributed 14.

Dragic led Miami heat with 23 points, after missing the last two games. Wayne Ellington made 6 threes in 13 attempts and finished with 20 points for the Heat.

It was the end of a 4 game winning streak at Home for Miami (27 -21), although it is the fourth defeat in 7 overall.

Sacramento Kings (15-33) rookie De’Aron Fox gave credit to his teammates after his match-winning putback.

“Buddy was hot and we just had a great playmaker in [Bogdanovic] coming off the screen and just tried to make a play,” Fox said. “He shot the ball up and for the most part, as a guard, we get back. There were a few seconds left and I just wanted to crash the glass and I just showed my athleticism.”

Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra was disappointed with Miami’s fourth-quarter fold:

“We’ve been terrific in the last six weeks in our fourth quarter execution. You have a couple of games now where it’s been erratic. Obviously the turnovers allowed them to get some breathing room to get some confidence to grow closer.

“We had some opportunities with catches in the paint where we weren’t strong enough to be able to finish or draw fouls and then execution on details of screening and getting the ball where it needed to go and then if they defended the first part of it to be able to get to second or third layers. We’ll learn from this as painful as it feels tonight, we will get better. Again, we can’t take our execution for granted and we’ll move on.”
