Saints’ Adrian Peterson ‘Itching’ To Play In NFL Preseason
The New Orleans Saints aren’t the same dominant team of old with elite quarterback Drew Brees leading the way under center. Brees may still be in New Orleans and able to play at a high level, but the team around him has gone through drastic changes. Fortunately for New Orleans, one of those changes was bringing in veteran running back Adrian Peterson.
After spending his entire NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, the future Hall of Famer was released and became a free agent as a result. Although there wasn’t as much interest in Peterson than anticipated, the 32-year-old got a second chance with the Saints, and he can’t wait to make his debut in the Big Easy, via Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com:
“I had talked to coach (Mike Zimmer) about it, but it didn’t end up happening,” Peterson said. “Maybe I’m itching a little more this offseason. Plus, I don’t know how they do things. If the starters go out there and play no matter what, then I’m buttoning up and I’m going. But when that time comes, we’ll talk a little more about it.”
Peterson, who has battled through injuries the last few years, still feels he’s got a lot of football left in him and he’s determined to prove that fact in New Orleans.
Unfortunately for Peterson, teams around the league weren’t willing to take a risk on the veteran back at 32 years old and coming off yet another knee injury that ended his season. Regardless of the lack of interest or willingness to pay Peterson’s desire contract, the seven-time Pro Bowler was able to land in a good position playing in the backfield with Brees.
Although there’s no telling how much football Peterson may have left in him, he’ll have the opportunity to prove his worth, and if he has another bounce back year, the league will be put on notice.
