Season Best Trae Young Backs Hawks To Turn It Around
Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has faith the team will pull through its current adverse Covid situation.
Head coach Nate McMillan entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Saturday. Meanwhile, six Hawks players were able to return for the game against Portland.
Bogdan Bogdanovic and four other Atlanta players remain in the Covid protocols. Atlanta recently lead the NBA with 12 players unavailable for selection.
“We’re just trying to fight through it and weather the storm,’ Trae Young said. “Last year, we were 14-20 at this point, so we made progress; we’re 16-20. But we gotta find a way. We gotta find a way to turn it back around like we did last year, and I think we will. I think once we get guys back and guys start to get back in their rhythm we’ll turn it around.”

It’s easy to be optimistic when you’ve just delivered the best performance in the NBA this season. Against the Blazers, Trae Young scored a season-high 56 points as well as a career-best.
He shot 17-for-26 from the field, 7-for-12 from 3-point distance and 15-for-15 from the line. Additionally, he added 14 assists. Only Kevin Durant (51), Stephen Curry (50) and Jaylen Brown (50) have scored 50 or more points before him this season.
Young also became the first player with 50 + and 14 + assists in a game since James Harden in 2016.

“I don’t care about nothing besides the fact we lost, so it sucks I had this type of night on a loss because at the end of the day that’s all that matters to me,” Young said. “I just wish we would have won.”
