Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II doesn’t think his team will be scrambling to find Ben Roethlisberger’s replacement in 2017.

Roethlisberger recently made it clear he’s contemplating retirement (more on that here). But after personally talking with Big Ben, Rooney isn’t worried he’s ready to leave the game just yet.

The president also said he believes Roethlisberger’s comments were likely the result of frustration at being defeated by the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, as well as concerns about his age. That being said, he also noted it’s probably time for Pittsburgh to look at the quarterback position in the upcoming draft.

Big Ben is about to turn 35. He’s endured numerous lower-body injuries throughout his 13 years in the NFL. It’s only natural that he’s contemplating life after football, especially now that he’s the father of three children. However, he is also a tremendous competitor, and it would truly be shocking if he were to retire before the 2017 season.

With that in mind, especially given Rooney’s comments, Steelers fans can rest easy for at least one more season with the quarterback who has taken their team to the Super Bowl three times, winning twice.
