Steelers WR Antonio Brown On Future: ‘I Can Still Be The Best In The World’
The Pittsburgh Steelers surprised a lot of people during the 2014 NFL season with Ben Roethlisberger and company blowing away the competition on a weekly basis with some unexpected firepower. Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown are talented young players, but no one expected both of these promising offensive players to set the NFL ablaze with their solid play.
Although Bell was a pleasant surprise for the Steelers racking up 2,215 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns, Brown emerged as arguably the best wide receiver in the league. Brown was impressive to say the least has become Roethlisberger favorite target in the passing game while setting up a promising future.
With Brown’s breakout season in the books, and Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas recently signing lucrative long-term deals, talk of the Steelers wideout holding out has come out. Brown downplayed the notion he may want holdout while also making a bold statement, via Chris Adamski of Triblive.com:
“You get caught up thinking about the future, you lose sight of the present,†said Brown, who set team records with 129 catches — second most in a season in NFL history — and 1,698 receiving yards last season.
“What I’m here to do today is show how hard I’ve been working, showcase that I can still be the best in the world.â€
It seems as though Brown may be content with entering the 2015 campaign at $6 million for the season. Brown will likely continue to try and prove his worth setting up a lucrative deal in the near future, via Adamski:
“I never really told anybody I’d hold out,†Brown said. “This organization did a great deal with me, rewarding me with a contract (two) years in. And holding out is never what I’ve been about. I love the game, I love to play and I’m gonna be here. I’m here.â€
This is great news for Pittsburgh as they can enter the upcoming season with no concerns surrounding arguably their best offensive player. If Brown, Bell and Roethlisberger can have similar performances in comparison to last year, the Steelers will remain a legitimate threat in the AFC and potentially the favorite to win the AFC North division.
