Super Bowl LV Defeat Worst Ever For Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was brought back down to earth in the Super Bowl in Tampa on Sunday.
The fire that has lit up the NFL since 2018 was extinguished by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs, missing four starters, were limited to three field foals by a miserly Bucs front seven.
Patrick Mahomes was forced to play faster than he’s used to, and it showed. He completed just 26 of his 49 attempts for 270 yards and two interceptions and a 49.9 QBR rating, the second worst of his career.
It’s the first time a Mahomes team has failed to score a touchdown when he started. The Kansas City talisman was pressured 29 times – a Super Bowl record.

The Chiefs’ longest play of the game was a 26 yard run by rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the third quarter.Â
“They were the better team today,” Mahomes said. “They beat us pretty good, the worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time.
“Took away our deep stuff, took away the sidelines and they did a good job of rallying to the football and making tackles. We weren’t executing early, had a few miscues. Guys weren’t on the same page. Credit to them. They played a heck of a game defensively and offensively to beat us.’
“I just think we weren’t on the same page as an offense,” Mahomes said.Â

“I wasn’t getting the ball out on time. The receivers were running routes not exactly where I thought they were going to be at. The offensive line, they were good sometimes and sometimes they let guys through. When you play a good defense like that, you’ve got to be on the same page as an offense, and we weren’t today and that’s why we played so bad.
“They were just better than us.”
