Superstar Kevin Durant Set To Return For Warriors On Saturday Against Pelicans
The defending Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors will finally get arguably their best player back on the floor this weekend. Kevin Durant, who has been out since Feb. 28 with sprained MCL, is expected to make his return against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:
The Golden State Warriors have targeted Saturday night’s home game against the New Orleans Pelicans as the return date for Kevin Durant provided that the All-Star forward experiences no setbacks in the final stages of his recovery from a sprained left knee, league sources told ESPN.
Before going down with the injury, Durant had the Warriors firing on all cylinders. Golden State had finally hit their stride with the revamped roster with the former MVP leading the way.
With Durant back in the fold, the team will look to adjust to the return of the star forward. If Durant does indeed return on Saturday, he’ll likely face the Pelicans, Utah Jazz, and Los Angeles Lakers in the team’s final stretch of games before the NBA playoffs.
The Warriors currently sit in the top seed in the West with a 63-14 record. Golden State holds a 3.5 game lead over the San Antonio Spurs and appears to have a tight grip on the No. 1 seed setting up a potential first-round playoff series with Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers.
Golden State could face some stiff competition in their attempt to reach the NBA Finals for a third straight year. The Spurs and Houston Rockets seem to be serious threats to dethrone the Western Conference heavyweights with Kawhi Leonard and James Harden leading the charge for both teams.
