Thomas Brown To Take Over Offensive Playcalling For Panthers
Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over play-calling duties for the Carolina Panthers, head coach Frank Reich announced Monday.
Reich insists such a change was always planned, but it’s hard to ignore the context of their 0 – 6 start. It’s the first time Carolina has started 0 – 6 since 1998, and the second time in franchise history.
Entering Week 6, the Panthers ranked 26th in average passing expected points added. They ranked 25th in average rushing EPA. As well as that, they ranked 23rd in passing yards per game and 22nd in rushing yards per game.

Clearly, something needed to change. Thomas Brown (37) is highly thought of, and has the bye week to prepare for his debut.
“It’s always been part of the plan,” Reich said.Â
“Something Thomas and I have discussed from the time that he was hired. I’m excited for this for Thomas. I’m excited for our team on offense. Thomas is a stud. He’s a great leader. He’s a brilliant offensive mind. We all have a lot of confidence in him.
“I think the timing is right,” Reich added.Â
“This has been something even from the beginning that I have talked through with Mr. (David) Tepper and (general manager) Scott (Fitterer) from the beginning of the season. Thought that this bye week was going to be a check point. Really been thinking hard about it the last couple of weeks. And kind of knew it was leaning this way. I’m excited to turn it over to Thomas, and know he’s going to do a great job for this team.”

Thomas Brown joined the Panthers in February. Now, he finds himself in the drivers seat of the offense.
“I needed to get in-season and see it all play out,” said Reich.
“I’d like to think this is the best decision no matter what our record is.”
