Tyler Lockett Signs New Deal Until 2025

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Locket has agreed a four-year, $69.2 million contract extension, ESPN reported on Wednesday.

His new contract includes $37 million in guaranteed money. It comes at a time when he was entering the final year of his 2018 contract.

Since signing the $31.8 million deal in 2018, Tyler Lockett has enjoyed his three best NFL seasons. In that time he has 28 receiving touchdowns (fifth among NFL wide receivers) and 3,076 yards (13th).

His journey to becoming one of the league’s most productive and eye catching receivers is all the more impressive considering the horrific injury he sustained in 2016.

After making the Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro in his rookie season, he suffered a compound leg fracture in late 2016.

He came back to start every single game in the 2017 season.

“That sucked,” Tyler Lockett said.

“But I had to learn how to be able to make it work. I had to learn how to walk. I had to learn how to crutch around. I had to go through the process and even after that I couldn’t sit on my butt and complain about what I missed out on or what didn’t work out for me. I had to come back and figure out how to be able to play my best ball maybe not feeling the way I … used to feel. I had to learn how to still get open. I had to learn how to still beat people man-to-man.”

Lockett has a knack for making unlikely catches. Since 2018, he has a catch percentage over expectation of plus 12%, the second highest in the league. Against the Cardinals last year he had one such highlight catch in a 15 catch, 200 yard performance, the most productive of his career.

“It’s one thing to make a catch like that some time in your life, but to do it every time you get a chance, it’s pretty crazy — and particularly under pressure and the stress of the game and the situation, all that,” coach Pete Carroll said after that game.

“He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal football player.”
