Week 1 in NBA East In Review

The first week in the NBA served up plenty of surprises.  The majority of the games played were close contests.  We saw upset victories, and rookies had some big games.  Teams that were suppose to be tanking seem to be on the rise, while teams that were expected to dominate have looked wishy-washy.  46 games is hardly a proper sample group to predict what will happening the rest of the season, but that is not going to stop us from doing it anyway.

“Mediocre Teams” Show Some Life

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic have a winning percentage sitting at .500 percent.  This puts him in the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference.  The Philadelphia 76ers are NO. 2 in the Conference and sit at 3-1. Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have yet to win a game.

The 76ers came into the season with three notable players and are making the most of it.  They even picked up a huge win against the Miami Heat. The Magic picked up some solid young talent but no one though that talent would be more than trade chips.  Orlando may be giving that second thoughts now.  These teams are not showing up in the future odds yet, but they are definitely picking it up.

The Heat and The Bulls?

The Heat looked good in their first game, however they turned around and dropped games to the Sixers and Brooklyn Nets. Last season the Heat had a tendency to fall behind early in games and turn it up in the second half.  They attempted to do the same thing in both these games but they failed to catch up fast enough.  Is this going to be regular occurrence for the Heat?

Meanwhile, the question of whether the Chicago Bulls are going to be Championship contenders with the return of Derrick Rose remains muddled even after the first week of Basketball.  Neither the Rose or the Bulls squad have looked particularly impressive thus far.  But most feel it is just a matter of time before Rose shakes off the cobwebs and pulls this team together.
