Who Is The World Series Favorite?
The questioned posed in the title can be answered quickly. The San Francisco Giants are the favorites to beat the Kansas City Royals in the World Series according to the sports books. However, the favorites do not always win.
The Royals have been playing from the position of the underdog the entire playoffs and yet here they are in the World Series and they have a ton of momentum coming into the game.
The Giants are also charging in, though, after handedly defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1. This is the Giants third World Series appearance in five years.
The Giants were not favorites in the future odds to make to the World Series until the tail end of the season. In other words, this is an unlikely pairing for the World Series.
The Royals started the postseason by becoming the first team ever to win eight consecutive games in the playoffs. If that is not momentum then I do not know what is.
The Royals momentum is thanks to a combination of some heavy hitters like Mike Moustakas and Alex Gordon and a nearly unbeatable bullpen, but if any team is going to get the edge on the Royals in the pitching department, it is the Giants.
Madison Bumgarner is San Francisco’s not-so secret, secret weapon. He has been a key part the Giants’ pitching staff for years, but this year has been his year to shine.
James Shields starts Game 1 for the Royals. Shields numbers are not eye-popping, but he pitches well enough to last until the bullpen can take over.
Game 1 of the World Series is tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET.
