WNBA Returns to Action Following All-Star Break

All 12 WNBA teams will be action today, following their All-Star Break and it’s been a good season so far for those who like to play favorites. At the break, all favorites were 68-50-3 (57.3%) against the spread. Away favorites have especially done well, going 29-15 ATS. But there’s quite a bit more basketball left to be played.

The Minnesota Lynx have established themselves as the best team in the league once again. The Los Angeles Sparks are solidly in the No. 2 spot. But after that, it’s pretty much anybody’s guess with a number of teams capable of pulling off an upset.

The Connecticut Sun and Washington Mystics are fighting for top team in the East. The Mystics have had some injury problems recently that will carry over past the break. The Sun have the best spread record in the league at 14-7. But when fully healthy Washington is likely the team to beat in the East.

New York can’t be counted out, nor can Atlanta.

Phoenix is another team dealing with injuries but can be a tough opponent for anybody when at full strength. The Dallas Wings made a little run earlier in the year. But they’ve since fallen back a little bit.

The team playing the best before the All-Star Break was the Chicago Sky. But even after going 5-1 so far in July are just 8-13 on the season. Two of those wins came over Minnesota and Los Angeles The Sky’s lone setback was an overtime loss at Dallas.

But Minnesota is the team to beat and the Lynx are -105 to win the WNBA championship. The Sparks are +350 and Washington is +850. After that Connecticut and New York are both +1150 and Phoenix is +1200. Chicago is +4800, but have a tough task of making the playoffs. If they can keep the winning ways going they may sneak in there and then it’s anybody’s ball game.
