NFL Rumors: Strong Possibility Philip Rivers Is Traded To The Titans
With two potential franchise quarterbacks in the upcoming NFL draft, the rumors have started to swirl about team’s willingness to trade up to grab either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota. Both are Heisman trophy winners and great pieces to build an NFL franchise around, but the debate continues as to which teams they will land with in the draft.
At this point in time, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that Winston will be taken with the number one overall pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite off-the-field issues, Winston has proven to be the better prospect of the two and seemingly destined to land in Tampa Bay.
As for Mariota, the trade rumors continue to swirl with the San Diego Chargers potentially ready to make a deal to send veteran Philip Rivers to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the second overall pick. Rivers has expressed his desire not to play in Los Angeles if the team moves their in 2016 and is rumored to favor a deal sending him to Tennessee.
According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, this deal could get done before or on draft day:
With both teams facing uncertain futures moving forward, it isn’t really a bad deal for either side. Mariota will be a promising young quarterback to build around in San Diego while the Titans can bring in a veteran to help resurrect the offense while continuing to develop Zach Mettenberger.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out, but one thing is for sure with the draft less than two weeks away, Mariota’s next stop has yet to be determined.
