Warriors Vs. Cavs Game 4 Odds/Total Ignore Trends
It seems that the sportsbooks odds and total and the betting trends that set them are ignoring a lot of history in regards to the Game 4 odds.
The Cleveland Cavaliers took Game 3 of the seven-game championship series against the Golden State Warriors. The game put Cleveland ahead in the series 2-1. However, the game was a lot more than a mid-series rubber match between the two best teams in the NBA.
Historically, teams who win in Game 3 go on to win NBA Championships. The Cavs have been placed as underdogs in the first three games of the series and with that historical fact, one would assume the odds would be adjusted accordingly and when the odds first opened the Cavs were slight favorites over the Warriors. However, the Warriors were quickly adjusted to -2-point favorites and as we approach tip off time they sit at -3-point favorites at most books. In fact, the Warriors are still the favorites to win the entire series.
It is not just the point spread that seems off. The total for Game 4 is set at 194 points. Both Games 2 and 3 hit the UNDER and Game 1 would have done the same if was not for a barrage of offense from the Warriors in overtime.
To be fair, the series could just as easily be 2-1, Warriors. Golden State could easily comeback in this series considering Cleveland as allowed the Warriors to comeback in ever game after being down, with the most being a 20-point comeback in Game 3 that nearly cost the Cavs the series lead.
The sportsbooks are obviously thinking that will be the case. It is just odd to see them deviate from typical trends.
