Cubs And Giants Vie For NL Supremacy

At the moment the San Francisco Giants hold a one-and-a-half game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League standings.

It is still a bit early to be talking playoffs, but it is still never too early to gain a foothold in the National League and that is exactly what the Giants and Cubs will be playing for tonight.

The Cubs have won six of their last seven games, while the Giants have won 16 of their last 21 games. In other words, both teams are playing solid ball. The Cubs, though, are listed as the -140 favorites to take at least three games in this four-game series and the Cubs are the -122 favorites to win tonight.

The Cubs will trod out Jason Hammel who is 6-5 with a 3.13 ERA this season. The right-hander pitched 5 2/3 innings, only allowing one run. The Cubs went on to win 4-1. Hammel is going to have his hands full with the Giants Batters. They are hitting a .303 with a 2.98 ERA over their 16-5 run.

Chris Heston will head to the mound for the Giants. Heston last start was his shortest. He only lasted a little over four innings against the Texas Rangers after allowing seven hits and three earned runs. In his last four starts he went 3-0 with 0.90 ERA so that game was against the norm.
