Veteran WR Reggie Wayne Taking Physical With New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are the best team in the NFL when it comes to resurrecting careers that were thought to be over. The Patriots have a long list players that have been able to bounce back after landing in New England and the storied NFL franchise may be on the verge of bringing in one more.
According to ESPN, veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne is taking a physical with the team:
Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne is visiting with the New England Patriots and will take a physical Sunday with the reigning Super Bowl champions, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Currently, the Patriots have Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell as team’s top receivers along with perennial Pro Bowler Rob Gronkowski. The addition of a veteran like Wayne might be a step in the right direction for New England as they try to defend their title during the 2015 NFL campaign.
Although it may be a difficult to get off to a good start for the Patriots with Tom Brady’s four-game suspension still looming, Wayne does have a decent chance of extending his career in New England.
Last season, Wayne caught 64 passes for 779 yards and two touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts. The consensus is Wayne is on the downside of his career and no longer the dominant player of old, but may be able to turn things around with a change of scenery in New England.
Along with Wayne, there’s a few other talented wide receivers left on the free agent market. Wes Welker, Donnie Avery, Brandon Lloyd, Santana Moss and Robert Meachem are also available and could get a look from the Patriots if Wayne doesn’t end up signing a contract with the team.
