Green Bay Defense Has Caught Up to its Offense

The Green Bay Packers are 5-0 to start the season and lead the NFC North by 2 1/2 games over the Minnesota Vikings who were idle in Week 5.

The Packers point difference is +47, which is second in the NFC and third in the NFL.

Despite their strong start to the season, the offense for Green Bay has not played well the last two weeks. On Sunday, the Packers defeated the St. Louis Rams 24-10 but it was far from a solid day offensively.

Aaron Rodgers was intercepted twice and lost one fumble and no running back ran for more than 27 yards. The offensive line for the Packers must play better or Green Bay will have problems when facing strong defenses.

The offense has opened the season struggling, something reigning MVP Rodgers admitted following the game, but Green Bay’s defense has become the team’s most powerful weapon.

Whether the coaches should worry that the Packers offense has been slowed for two straight games or thrilled the defense is no longer a punching back is how you perceive things.

If you happen to be Rodgers who threw for two more touchdowns bringing his total to 13 with only two interceptions, it is the first one.

Rodgers said the offense has struggled for two weeks, but it all comes down to better passes, better routes and better adjustments.

One of the offensive linemen for Green Bay said that at least the offense does not have to be absolutely perfect each week for the Packers to win.

Part of the defense’s strong play could come from the fact coach Mike McCarthy gave up his play calling to help with the defense, which has shown great improvement.

In Sunday’s game, the Packers defense had four interceptions. Over the past three games, the defense has 16 sacks, including three of Nick Foles’ the Rams quarterback on Sunday. The relentless pressure by the defensive rush caused Foles to rush his passes often resulting in completing just 11 of his 30 passes on the day.

The defense even scored when rookie Quinten Rollins a cornerback, returned one of this two interceptions for a 45-yard touchdown.

Clay Matthews a Green Bay linebacker had 1.5 sacks Sunday and said that for so long the Packers were described as an offensive team, but it is nice that the defense can now hold its own.

Green Bay has a bye after this week’s game versus San Diego and that will help Davante Adams to recover from his sprained ankle. The Packers have missed his presence as a wide out.

However, no one should be too concerned since only six teams are still undefeated and the Packers are one of them.
