Odell Beckham Jr. Playing Status Unknown for Monday
On Monday, the New York Giants will visit the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC East showdown. Last week in New York’s last minute win over the San Francisco 49ers, Odell Beckham Jr. the talented wide receiver of the Giants hurt his hamstring.
This past week, Beckham Jr. sat out practice all week and the team says it will decide on his playing status sometime during the day on Sunday.
Since last season, when he arrived in the NFL, Beckham Jr. has had his problems with his hamstrings.
On Thursday, Beckham stretched out with the rest of the team, and then went to the side to work with a team trainer on specific motion exercises that were filmed by the trainer.
Once practice began, Beckham joined the team’s other wide receivers in drills though he did not participate.
Friday, Beckham also stretched with his teammates and danced to music being played during the stretching, as did others.
He then caught some balls off to the side from the JUGS machine, which consisted of little movement on his part.
None of what he did on either Thursday or Friday looked like a player who might be suiting up on Monday to play. On Saturday, there was no practice and on Sunday will be the walk through to prepare for Monday’s showdown.
Tom Coughlin the New York head coach said it would be nice if by Sunday the team knows if Beckham can play or not on Monday, but it did not mean it was mandatory.
Beckham has told reporters he is day to day and the extra day since they are playing Monday Night is very helpful to him.
New York is currently on a three-game winnings streak after losing its first two games of the season. The Giants are now atop the NFC East by one game.
Philadelphia won big last week and is now 2-3 on the season. The Eagles were hyped all preseason about their up-tempo high-octane offense, but not until its rout of New Orleans last week did fans of the Eagles seem a bit satisfied.
I suspect Beckham will play as he is used to hamstring problems and that he will want to suit up against the NFC East Eagles.
Rueben Randle another wide out for the Giants was also injured last week, but he is expected to be in the starting lineup on Monday night for the Giants.
