Green Bay Humbled by Broncos Defense in Sunday Loss

The Green Bay Packers offense has not been that strong this season, but its defense has kept them in games. That was not the case on Sunday night when the Denver Broncos easily shut the door on the Packers offense and strolled to a 29-10 win.

The Green Bay offense was inept and Aaron Rodgers the All-Pro and reigning MVP of the league could not find receivers open as Aqib Talib and the rest of the defensive secondary blanketed the likes of James Jones and Davante Adams play in and play out.

On one particular play, Rodgers was in the pocket for over four and a half seconds before being sacked. That length of time is an eternity for a NFL quarterback, but no receivers could get open and Rodgers was forced to take the sack.

The Broncos defense is very good, maybe the best in the NFL along with Carolina, but how can a passer like Rodgers be limited to only 77 yards through the air.

The problem Green Bay has is not new. Rodgers noted after a win in Week 5 over St. Louis that the receivers needed to run better routes and must get open more often on the outside.

After another win against San Diego, Rodgers could not believe the lack of receivers open outside the numbers.

The Packers will not get Jordy Nelson back this season and even though Adams came back after missing three games, it did not seem to do much good.

Mike McCarty the head coach, Tom Clements the play caller and Edgar Bennett the offensive coordinator better figure something out to find their offense or each time they play a top quality team and the result could be the same.

This week, things will not get any easier and could be even harder. The Packers will play Carolina, a defense that allows just 18.3 points per game. The Panthers are playing the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night and that could be the only advantage Green Bay would have – one more day’s rest.

Jones made a strong impact at wide receiver when he was picked up after Nelson went down injured. However, that impact has started to wane, as he caught just one pass for two yards on Sunday night in Denver.

Adams in his return only had one catch for 8 yards, while he dropped another. Randall Cobb caught six passes, which was a team high, but they totaled just 27 yards.

McCarthy called the game an ass-kicking and a humbling experience for his Packers. The Packers under McCarthy were 8-1 following a bye week, until Sunday.
