Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger Suffers Concussion In Loss To Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers have their sights set on the NFL playoffs this season with the team fighting for one of the two AFC Wild Card spots. Although the Steelers have played well, veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has struggled to stay healthy this season.

On Sunday, Roethlisberger suffered yet another injury in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The two-time Super Bowl champion has a concussion, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN:

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was diagnosed with a concussion after leaving the field late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 39-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

As a result of the injury, Roethlisberger will go through the league’s concussion protocol with his playing status uncertain moving forward via Fowler:

Roethlisberger has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol, but a source told ESPN that his symptoms subsided quickly and that he feels better.

The Steelers will host the visiting Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 with Landry Jones potentially being the team’s starter under center. Roethlisberger’s health will continue to be an issue for Pittsburgh, but Landry has done well as his backup when needed.

Every game from here on out will be extremely important for the Steelers as they compete with many other teams in the AFC competing for playoffs spots. Pittsburgh has a great shot of clinching a spot in the postseason if able to continue being a powerhouse offensively with or without Roethlisberger.

The Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, and New York Jets are all sporting 6-5 records after Week 12. The Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills are also hanging around at 5-6.

As for the AFC North, the Cincinnati Bengals basically have the division title wrapped up at 9-2. The Steelers will need an AFC Wild Card spot in order to be playoff bound this season.
