Derrick Rose Wants To Retire With The Chicago Bulls
Over the past few years, Derrick Rose’s future with the Chicago Bulls has been a topic of conversation around the NBA. Rose has struggled to stay healthy ever since winning NBA MVP back in 2011 and, therefore, has been a question mark regarding his long-term future with the team and in the league for that matter.
Along with all the questions surrounding his long-term health, the team has started to build around Jimmy Butler. The long-term future in Chicago seems to center around Butler being the star attraction with Rose possibly on shaky ground as the Bulls may look to move his contract.
Although Rose’s future in Chicago may be uncertain, the 27-year-old wants to remain in a Bulls uniform for the rest of his career via Nick Friedell of ESPN:
Friedell: You told me a long time ago you never wanted to play anywhere else. Is that still true?
Rose: That’s still true. Still true. Just having my son [P.J.], I’m doing all this because of my son now, you know? Just wanting to be around him every day, having him come up here, shoot with me or see me shooting til he’s able to become a ball boy. Little things like that I think about long term. Just trying to get him groomed, trying to get him used to being in the environment.
Friedell: You want to retire here still.
Rose: For sure, for sure.
With the NBA trade deadline a little more than a month away on Feb. 19, the Bulls may put some feelers out to see if any team around the league is interested in acquiring Rose. The three-time All-Star is set to make $21.3 million next season and will become an unrestricted free agent in 2017-18.
At this point, the Bulls (22-14) are sitting in the third seed in the Eastern Conference behind the Toronto Raptors (24-15) and Cleveland Cavaliers (26-9). Chicago has lost two straight after falling to the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards recently.
The Bulls will face off against the Milwaukee Bucks on the road tonight in hopes of ending their two-game skid. Chicago is favored with a -3.5 point spread against the Bucks, according to Sportsbook.ag.
