Carmelo Anthony Focusing On Making Knicks Better In NBA Offseason
The 2015-16 NBA season is over for superstar Carmelo Anthony. The New York Knicks will take on the Indiana Pacers tonight in their season finale without their face of the franchise on the floor.
With Anthony’s season over, the 31-year-old has been asked about the team’s immediate future. Anthony, along with many of his teammates and those in the front office, aren’t happy about the current situation in New York and hope for changes this summer.
After losing to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday at Madison Square Garden, Anthony was asked whether he thought he may have played his final home game in New York. Antony responded by saying the following, via ESPN’s Ian Begley:
“No, no, I don’t think about that. Not right now,†he said. “I can’t think about that. My mindset is just figuring out how we’re going to better this situation, how we’re going to continue to grow as a team, grow as an organization and not get used to going home this early in April.”
The Knicks head into an offseason filled with uncertainty surrounding the future of the organization. Rumors have surfaced about President Phil Jackson wanting out of New York and the team having slim chances of upgrading the roster in NBA free agency.
New York will have a considerable amount of cap space at their disposal this summer and will try to surround Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis with the talent needed to become a playoff contender in the Eastern Conference once again.
If the Knicks are unable to upgrade the roster in free agency and or trades over the summer, Anthony may elect to waive the no-trade clause in his contract. Anthony has said he wants things to turn around quickly with the superstar knowing he’s not getting any younger. A trade isn’t out of the realm of possibility and could be the course of action if things don’t change in the offseason.
