New York Knicks To Interview Mark Jackson For Head Coaching Job
With the 2015-16 NBA season coming to an end for the New York Knicks on Tuesday night, the team must address the situation concerning to head coaching position. Phil Jackson and company parted ways with Derek Fisher earlier in the season leaving a lot of uncertainty about the team’s direction.
Although there’s been a lot of speculation about Kurt Rambis potentially going from interim head coach to the long-term solution for New York, it appears Jackson is ready to do his due diligence. Former Golden State Warriors and Knicks guard, Mark Jackson, will be among the candidates set to interview for the job, according to Tommy Dee of SNY.tv:
A source close to the situation told me on Monday that Jackson has reached out to former Golden State Warriors head coach and Knicks point guard Mark Jackson to discuss the Knicks head coaching position.
Along with Jackson, the Knicks may also pursue current Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton. There’s no telling whether Walton will leave Golden State for New York or any other head coach vacancy around the league, but he’ll still likely get a call from his former Los Angeles Lakers coach this summer.
Jackson’s decision on the next head coach of the Knicks will be crucial to the team’s future moving forward. Star forward Carmelo Anthony is already on the fence about staying in New York due to the current situation and could ask to be traded if he’s not on board with the decision made in the coming months.
Other potential candidates for Jackson may include Brian Shaw, Tom Thibodeau, Scott Brooks, Jeff Van Gundy and David Blatt. The former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach’s name surfaced the same time as Jackson and could be near the top of the list if he’s willing to implement the triangle offense.
