NBA Rumors: Dwyane Wade Potentially Landing With Spurs Or Mavericks?
The Miami Heat are going to be among the most aggressive teams in NBA free agency this summer. Pat Riley and company are hoping to retain their majority of their players like Dwyane Wade set to hit the free agent market as well as potentially adding superstar Kevin Durant.
While the Heat prepares their free agency pitch for their meeting with Durant, the team may be on the verge of losing their face of the franchise. Wade appears to be open to the idea of switching teams this summer and has already put out some feelers to the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:
Over the last 24, 72 hours, Dwyane’s representatives have been calling around the league to several teams. Not to every team, not to 29 teams, but to a few teams and have said to them, “Hey, Dwyane is going to be available and is going to take offers.â€
I know San Antonio is one of the teams that’s been contacted. I know Dallas is one of the teams that’s been contacted.
Although Wade is getting a bit long in the tooth at 34, the veteran guard is still among the best players in the league at his position. Wade was in the same situation last year with the three-time NBA champion hitting the open market and seemingly considering other options.
This time around Wade may actually make the move to leave the only team he’s ever played for on the NBA level. The perennial All-Star still has value, but the Heat brass appear focused on landing Durant and re-signing Hassan Whiteside.
At this point, even though Wade will consider other offers, it still seems like a foregone conclusion that he’ll stay in Miami.
