NBA Rumors: Ricky Rubio Reportedly On Trading Block In Minnesota
The NBA trade deadline is still a few weeks away with plenty of rumors bound to surface from now until Feb. 23. Point guard Ricky Rubio’s name has surfaced once again with talk of the Minnesota Timberwolves ready to part ways with their starting floor general.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, Rubio has been involved in trade talks the Timberwolves are having with the deadline looming:
The Minnesota Timberwolves are actively shopping point guard Ricky Rubio in trade proposals, league sources told The Vertical.
Over the last few years, Rubio has consistently been mentioned in trade rumors. The Spanish point guard has never really reached his potential in the NBA and as a result has been a player Minnesota has been willing to send elsewhere if the right deal came along.
With rookie point guard Kris Dunn being their floor general of the future while playing alongside Karl-Anthony Towns, Zach LaVine, and Andrew Wiggins, Rubio is expendable and will likely have a future in the NBA playing in a different uniform.
One team that has shown considerable interest in trading for Rubio is the Sacramento Kings. Unfortunately for Minnesota, the Kings don’t have assets that intrigue the team, via Wojnarowski:
The Sacramento Kings have had a strong interest in acquiring Rubio, but there’s no traction on a deal between those two teams, league sources said. So far, the Timberwolves are trying to exhaust the market elsewhere for a better return of assets than the Kings can offer.
Although the Kings aren’t offering what the Timberwolves desire in exchange for Rubio, Minnesota may ultimately fold and cut their losses by making a deal with Sacramento, or the offer could be substantially upgraded in the coming weeks.
Other than Rubio, the biggest name that was on the trade market recently was Paul Millsap. It seemed inevitable that Millsap would get dealt before the deadline, but now he has been reportedly pulled off the trading block by the Atlanta Hawks.
