NBA Rumors: Knicks Reached Out To Celtics, Clippers, And Cavs About Carmelo Anthony Trade

The plot thickens in the Carmelo Anthony saga. Apparently, the New York Knicks have been doing some shopping with the NBA trade deadline looming and have gauged interest in Anthony from a number of playoff contenders.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Knicks reached out to three teams thus far about whether they’d be interested in a deal for the veteran forward:

Armed with a hope that Carmelo Anthony will eventually waive his no-trade clause, the New York Knicks have reached out to the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers to probe their interest in a trade, league sources told The Vertical.

Anthony, who owns a no-trade clause, can control his fate from here on out. Although the power is in his hands, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interest in making a deal for a ball-dominant 32-year-old with an enormous contract.

There’s no question Anthony is still a very talented player with a few years of solid production left, but there’s no telling when the wheels will fall off and if he’s really worth making a blockbuster deal for at this point in his career.

Obviously, the Knicks are aggressively looking to move on from Anthony. It’ll be interesting to see if a deal comes to fruition between now and the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 23. Anthony has $54 million left on his contract for the next two years and is currently making $24.6 million this season in New York.

In 46 games this season, Anthony is averaging 22.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and 37.2 from deep.
