Lynx Leave Little Doubt Who is Best in WNBA
It’s still the early going of the 2017 WNBA season and the Minnesota Lynx have made their case for being the top team. The 2015 champions have played with a chip on their shoulder since falling to Los Angeles in last year’s WNBA Finals. Minnesota is the lone undefeated team in the league with a 7-0 record. The Lynx are winning by an average of 11.9 points per game, outscoring foes 84.4-72.6. The next closest margin is Washington’s +3.9.
The Lynx dismantled second-place Seattle 100-77 last game on the road. It was the first home loss for Seattle after beginning with four straight wins at home.
The top team in the East is Washington with a 5-2 record. But the Mystics are a team that could peak at the right time as Elene Della Donne gets more comfortable with her new teammates. Atlanta is next in the East with a 4-2 followed by New York at 4-3.
The defending league champion Sparks are just 3-2. But both losses have been by three or fewer points on the road. They are still more than capable of going on a run to battle the Lynx. Although it won’t be easy and you know Minnesota is looking forward to the July 6 game at Minnesota.
The San Antonio Stars are again bringing up the rear. Not only are they the only winless team in the league, they had higher expectations this year. No. 1 draft pick Kelsey Plum is the all-time NCAA Division I scoring leader and much was expected from here. But is often the case, she’s struggling to make the adaption to the pro game a little bit. And several injuries haven’t helped her cause either.
Still, it’s a long season and some teams will pick it up down the stretch. Others will falter. But you can be sure that the Lynx won’t be one of them.
